Humans are Conduits

You are a conduit.

You are the middle between consumption and production, i.e., input and output.

And by that I mean that you are everything that you focus on in your own experience of the world and possibly also the things around you that you don’t focus on. Everything you see, hear, smell, taste, feel and learn dictates your next action or inaction.

Each and every conduit is different in the sense that the ratio from input to output is different. In other words, some people consume a lot and create very little while others consume very little and create a lot. Some conduits are damaged and aren’t able to create at all. Others consume so much to the point that they’re paralyzed from information overload.

After understanding this, I knew that I had to minimize the inputs of what I was doing on a daily basis. We now live in a era of overstimulation where we are able to escape digitally whenever we want into the online universe, at least if you’re able to read this. It is so easy for us to stay in consumer mode, research mode and exploration mode so much so that we forget that have more than just the ability to receive input. What I mean is that we can use that information in those modes as an output for creation, production and action.

Maybe this was forgotten or maybe people didn’t know but from the lens of a creator, we should mainly be ingesting material that is good for our output. However, I believe many people do not know that they are able to control their input and their influences. I used to be one of these people attempting to go with the flow. Unfortunately, going with the flow is only good if you’re a good conduit or the path that you’re on is good. Otherwise, people like me have to create their own flow. Similar to a never ending bowling alley, we have to set up guard rails so that the ball has a higher likelihood of hitting the pins.

The ball is like our attention, we want to have the right amount of attention and focus so that we move in the right direction. Otherwise, if you’re sensitive like me, chances are that you’ll end up going in every direction, doing everything and ending up with analysis paralysis because of input overload.

This is why it is important to limit inputs meaning to not consume everything that comes your way. Learn to set boundaries on things that don’t help you in achieving what you want to create and also learn to open up channels that help you in having better and/or more output.

It isn’t always easy to find out whether an input is good or bad for you. Sometimes, you won’t know it until later and sometimes you will know it right away. One way I can tell if an input is bad for me is if there is no output from me after I do it. If I’m doom scrolling on Instagram, rarely am I ever inspired to create or do something. On the other hand, if I’m having a conversation with friends or family, sometimes I gain insight or get an idea to take action.

If you haven’t discovered what you want to create, it’s also a good idea to limit input. One thing that I discovered is once I stopped gaming, which was a huge time sink, I found other things to do. Eventually, it lead me to the creation of this blog. The habit of gaming served no purpose in my creation other than the creation of a bigger ego with a false reality. So, stopping it entirely helped in helping myself as a conduit for production.

I have had this perspective for a while so I hope it helps you in your endeavor towards success.

Until the next post, thank you for reading! As always, wishing you love and success!
