Change in life is inevitable and we can either be a positive, neutral or negative influence. In a majority of my life, I’ve always viewed myself to be a positive influence but there have been times where I’ve succumbed to a victim narrative. I can pin my thought process on a number of things. Perhaps, it was my negative emotions, my shame and guilt for not being enough or the lack of self-acceptance. Regardless, I am working adamantly to ensure that my personal narrative is one that is filled with the good things in life and to be the best version of myself in my own story.
One thing about being the best version of myself is understanding that we have a choice in how to make our own lives better but with this choice comes the responsibility and accountability. We are responsible and accountable for the choices that we make but the good things is that we aren’t accountable for the actions of others because we are no longer victims of circumstance. Rather, we are the creators of our own destiny. The problem is that there are so many options and things to do when it comes to life. It is so easy to be consumed by the chaos of life and get carried away when we don’t acknowledge that we can navigate it.
This isn’t to say that to navigate life is easy, for some it may come naturally. For me, it has been a journey of both good and bad. So, after getting to know myself better and knowing that I am not at a level where I can always create the best outcomes or make the best decisions, I have begun to slowly work towards being better at navigating and making better decisions. On the journey to better navigation, it’s important to have patience and self compassion because without these qualities, it becomes increasingly difficult to do better.
The good thing is that, for the most part, while we have a responsibility to ourselves, we rarely have to be accountable for the decisions of others. We understand that we have the ability to have input and gain input from others to make decisions but this is also true of other people. It’s important to understand that not everyone shares the same perspective. Some people do not believe in self-efficacy and are in a perpetual state of reliance on others. For these people, I wish them luck and hope they gain a better perspective but for others, who understand self-determination, we have to learn to take accountability for better life decisions and actions.
Until the next post, thank you for reading! As always wishing you love and success!
