Success is a Skill

Recently, I decided to look at my own behaviour and how I got to this point in life. While my life isn’t entirely the worst, it also isn’t the best. I began wondering why that was happening.

I learned that success is a skill and that just because a person is good at their craft, doesn’t necessarily mean that the person will also be successful. Ideally, most people would want to be both skilled at success and also, good at their craft but there is nothing that automatically makes one translate to the other. This is mind blowing information since I was always taught that if I worked hard at my job that I would be able to achieve anything. While I still hold the belief that I could achieve anything that I put my mind to, it made me realize why my life had it’s up and downs rather than having incremental improvement.

If you haven’t been taught how to be successful or had misunderstanding on how you should be in life than you’re in the right place. I’ve recently began understanding how to achieve incremental success and what is necessary to achieve it. Here are some things that have come to mind.

Success is Planned

Well, at least for the most part, success is planned. If you want to achieve something, it’s important to plan ahead so that you dictate the course of the future in a certain direction. Just like in my last post talking about how you can ‘You can Shape Reality‘, it is basically a way to achieve success. You can still achieve success without a plan if you’re able to manage all the chaos that occurs trying to make your life come to fruition. The problem is that I find that this adds on a lot of work and doesn’t really make much sense because it is an additional stressor to plan and take action when the action taken is seconds, minutes or even hours away.

So planning ahead is key to achieving success because it allows you to find out all the things that you need to do to achieve your plan. All goals are simply plans and success and being able to achieve that plan. So, if you’re setting a SMART(Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, & Time-Bound) goal; you have a better idea of how to achieve success within that goal or plan.

Success requires Responsibility

One thing that I learned about success is that success requires responsibility in order for it to be good and also sustainable. There have been so many people on this world who have achieved a lot of fame and fortune only for it to be a detriment to their lives. You have to understand what you would want to do with the money and attention otherwise, it may actually be worse to achieve it since a lot of people are not able to control themselves and the responsibility associated with both.

Personally, I never really cared for fame, I don’t find it useful by any means to have a ton of attention because the value provided is on the work and not the individual. On the other hand, I always wanted more money because I was taught by my family that it was important to have it. When I finally got it, I wasn’t sure if I could really handle it but I managed to handle it by saving most of it. My default action when it comes to money is to simply store it until I can figure out what to do with it.

But why do I have to be responsible with my success, you may ask? I think a lot of people don’t consider how easy it is to succumb to all the dangers of life, there are so many ways that a person’s life can end up badly so with the energy that comes with success, we have to learn to channel that energy to the good, healthy and useful things around us.

Success should start off Incremental

I know that success doesn’t have to be incremental but the reason the way society is structured the way it is usually with biweekly pay is so that people are able to manage their lives easier. Not everyone is able to handle a large influx of funds or achievement. As a matter of fact, people generally aren’t taught how to handle their personal finances or other successes in their lives. The skill of handling success is one that is part of sustaining success in the first place. However, at some point, the success usually becomes exponential but a person would have acquired all the skills to handle the success at the very beginning if done properly.

Conclusion

Chances are that I will come back with more success but I think this is a good start especially off the top of my head. I believe everyone in this world wants to achieve success whether they know it or not but until they make it a priority to achieve success and to embody all the character traits needed to succeed, they won’t receive it or at least to the degree that they wish. Hopefully, you and I achieve the successes that we’re looking for.
