I’ll be honest, I just had a mental breakdown recently and I learned a lot especially to listen to my body. Your body and your mind are one, they tell you when and when not to pursue a goal, a choice or a decision. I’ve learned that it’s important to listen to my body to not push myself beyond my body’s limits because there have been times where I’ve made decisions that I’ve regretted. With each decision made and lesson learned, there is generally an associated response that is emotional. So, we must be aware that for most decisions, it’s okay to change your mind about that decision.
The irony of my life is that I generally make blanket life principles to try and make my life easier or more efficient. For example, I use to apply that I’m the type to keep my word and do what I say but the problem with this is that there is a chance new information arises between the midst or it being made and any event happening thereafter. We must be aware that we are allowed to change our mind and not to adhere to or go through with everything we say we will do. Life is changing constantly and with new information, we can reverse our choice on a decision.
I should have realized this sooner when I was in university and making a bad decision to stay in a program that I didn’t like. We don’t have to push through or suffer through it because suffering begets more suffering. If anything, we should learn to pursue things such as wonder which would assist the world in becoming better especially since the world is becoming more and more connected to the internet and less connected between the people in it.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m also not saying to pursue the opposite end of listening to your body when it feels good due to external influences. There are plenty of things that I have stopped indulging it because it is a slippery slope to something worse. It is often not that things that only make us feel good that make life a good experience but the experiences shared and connections made that truly make life good. As the saying goes, “You’re only live once but if you do it right, that is enough” – Mae West
