“Art, in itself, is an attempt to bring order out of chaos.”
– Stephen Sondheim
Similarly, life, in and of itself, is an attempt to bring order out of chaos. If you’re reading this, chances are that you live in a fast paced chaotic world. Things are moving day by day and nothing really sits still for too long. For some, people such as myself, I am doing my best to calm the chaos that is within my mind. While others have completed this goal or have learned to simply flow in chaos. Personally, I’ve seen how a chaotic mind could lead to a chaotic life and I found that it wasn’t for me.
On the other hand, if your life is too orderly or boring and you do not see how chaotic life can be than you seek this chaos, spontaneity and disorder. Maybe, it comes in waves or maybe it happens in stages or phases. One thing that I’ve come to figure out is that it is important for us to learn to navigate this chaotic world. Most people aren’t even conscious of how crazy life is. They aren’t aware of the fact that they can be on autopilot and it greatly affects their life. They simply just do without thinking while scrolling through social media and consuming everything that they see, read and hear.
I strongly believe that the things you experience also lead to your future experiences so it’s important to be cautious and conscious with what you consume. Otherwise, you may end up creating more chaos in your life, which may be fine or fun for some. For others who want a peaceful, fulfilling and enjoyable life, many of us want order.
Order is what brings comfort for those who have been through enough chaos. The ones who have too much order want chaos at times, which is why you have world travellers who are able to embrace the journey for example.
Chaos and order both have value depending on how you look at it. When it comes to work and companies, it’s likely that they want order and to be able to make sense of things in an orderly fashion. On the other hand, creativity is also part of work and any act of creativity is usually a chaotic endeavor that becomes orderly later on. If you’re life is boring, chances are that you welcome a bit of chaos but if you’re life is chaotic and not in an exciting way, you’re more likely to want order. The value of order or chaos is attributed the individual situation or person. So, depending on the type of person you are and it may be obvious but you may be valued more in situation more than another. Find out which suits you best and go to the places that welcome your chaotic or orderly behaviour.
Until the next post, thank you for reading!
